Our Origin
The Laurent Project began as a grassroots effort to provide relief to the poverty-stricken parish of Tangipahoa (Tangi), Louisiana, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Founded in 2006 the Laurent Project was originally a community-based effort to provide basic needs such as food and clothing to those affected by the storm. However, the project gained momentum and began working to rebuild the community by providing volunteers to help with the physical rebuilding of homes, businesses and infrastructure.
Becoming
Center of Hope
In 2015, the Laurent Project was transformed into Tangilena Long Term Recovery Group, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing long-term support and assistance to the citizens of Tangipahoa and St Helena Parishes after disasters.
In 2020, Tangilena Long Term Recovery Group was transformed into Center of Hope for Tangipahoa, LLC (CoH). CoH’s formation enabled the board of CoH to expand focus to unmet needs withing our focus areas. CoH remaining a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated on the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the people of Tangi, providing resources such as job placement, housing assistance, access to health care, and spiritual guidance. The Center of Hope also participates in events throughout the year to bring the community together, such as kids camps, health fairs, and youth mentoring initiatives.
In 2020, Center of Hope Resale Shop opened its doors in downtown Hammond. The shop was opened to expand the outreach and connection with the community. Our foundation of care, connection, and community to Restore Hope, One Life at a Time.
Hope for Tangi has become an integral part of the community, providing tangible and intangible resources to its citizens. The Center of Hope is committed to continuing to serve the people of Tangi and the surrounding parishes for many years to come.
